Conclusion

Zohran Mamdani’s rise to the New York mayoral race has ignited a national debate about representation, wealth inequality, and political extremism. His campaign reflects a growing trend of digital-native, grassroots political engagement, especially among younger voters. Meanwhile, the stories of childhood violence and ultra-wealthy weddings underscore the stark contrasts in American society — from deep-seated social issues to extreme displays of privilege.

Mamdani remains a highly polarizing figure, symbolizing both hope and fear for the future of American democracy. As the election nears, his policies and identity will likely dominate political discourse — and his name will be heard far beyond New York.

Final Takeaway: This week’s news is a microcosm of modern America — where politics, youth, wealth, and identity collide in dramatic, often controversial, ways.

Full Transcript

This week, New Yorkers had one of the biggest political upsets in a generation, and they are now well on their way to having their first ever Muslim Indian mayor. The son of Norway's future king is just being charged with police saying that his alleged victims run into the double digits. America is being battered with a record-breaking heatwave that's even buckling roads. and Jeff Bezos officially married an astronaut in Venice at a wedding that cost more than 99% of the world's population will ever make in their entire lives. All of that and so much more news this week. So like the video if you are hyped and let's stop the Kraken, shant we go. Okay, let's kick today off with a name that you might have not even heard of until this week. Zran Mamani. He's a 33-year-old socialist Muslim Indian former rapper that is now running for mayor in the world's wealthiest city, New York. Yeah. I mean, I didn't even know it was the world's wealthiest city, but yeah, turns out. So, this is big news. Go ahead, make a rap for your naughty. Get the spin rack. And oh my lord, this has got to be the most divided I've seen the left and the right honor man since like Donald Trump. And I'll be honest, for most of us, including me, this guy came like out of nowhere. And then all of a sudden this week, we hear that in what people are calling the biggest political upset maybe in New York's entire history, we hear that Mumani defeated former Governor Andrew Como in the primaries for New York mayor. And that's not just like huge for New York, but it's going to have implications for the entire country if he ends up winning. And perhaps that's the reason why his name is everywhere right now because you know Andrew Como he had major backings by like big money and big endorsements while Manny didn't. His campaign was only launched 8 months ago and it heavily relied on public backing and support. And then it gets crazy because after Ko lost the primaries he dropped out, meaning Zoran Mandani is now the official nominee for the Democratic party. So if he wins, which is looking increasingly likely, he would become America's first Indian Muslim mayor. And you don't make waves like that without getting Donald Trump's attention, which uh he's already got. Like this communist from New York someday gets elected. I can't believe that's happening. That's a terrible thing for our country. By the way, he's a communist. We're going to go to a communistic. That's so bad for New York. Oh, and Trump didn't just call him a communist lunatic. He also said in a tweet that he looks terrible, his voice is grating, and he's not very smart, amongst many other things. Now, Mani has already responded in a couple of interviews about, you know, the accusations that he's a communist. And he said this, he called you a communist because he's the president. I want to give you a chance to respond directly to him. How do you respond? Are you a communist? No, I am not. You know, I call myself a democratic socialist in many ways inspired by the words of Dr. King from decades ago who said, "Call it democracy or call it democratic socialism. There has to be a better distribution of wealth for all of God's children in this country." Now, here's the thing. As I said, he's pretty controversial because the left seem to absolutely love him. They're calling him things like visionary and Trump's worst nightmare. And people on the right, Republicans, conservatives, oh my lord, they are freaking out. So, I thought, let me run through a couple of the the comments on both sides to give give you a bit of flavor as to what's happening. But before I do, these are the kind of things that he's campaigned on. He doesn't think that billionaires should exist. He wants to raise taxes for the richest people in New York by about 2%. He wants to freeze rent prices. He wants to create publicly funded grocery stores for low-income families. He wants to make buses free. He wants to stop the cooperation with ICE deportation raids. He's obviously Muslim and very pro Palestine, which obviously that's going to make a lot of people very happy, but also a lot of people very unhappy. And much, much more. But we're not going to go into what he's campaigned on for too much. Let me get into these tweets. So, let's start with the people that you know that support him first. So, on this Tik Tok, the interview with ABC News, some of the comments read, "If Trump speaks badly on you, it's a glowing endorsement." Full sentences with words more than two syllables. Notice how he's actually answering questions. Skip being mayor. Money for president. That was on TikTok. Over on Twitter, we got things like, "This is what happens when Dems run a principled candidate and then they show all of the vote results." Washington Post wrote an article titled, "This is an exciting time to be a New Yorker." So, you get the vibe from the left. Now, this is tweets from the right. President Trump should invoke the Communist Control Act to block Zoran Mandani from becoming mayor of New York. We have to play hard ball. Justin, a representative just formerly asked Attorney General Pam Bondi to revoke Zoran Mandani's citizenship and deport him back to Uganda and then at the end in big capital send him back. Now for context, he was born in Uganda. He then moved with his parents to South Africa and then he moved to New York at age 7 years old where he's been ever since. The New York Post said Zoran Mani doubles down on plan to target quote white neighborhoods with higher taxes and says billionaires shouldn't exist. Another tweet, NYC is being conquered. Money will make it even worse. And then some are even going as far as creating tweets. So they created this fake tweet that says, "Y'all smell something burning." and then they circle it. Uh on September the 11th, 2001, community notes added, "This is a fake tweet. Twitter was first launched in 2006." But you see the kind of feathers he is ruffling right now. And like for the Democrats, they are saying that this is like the new generation of what their party is supposed to be like. And to be fair, like his videos actually bang on TikTok. Like they are very well produced. And as a content creator, I look at that and I'm like, this could be a content creator. And that's something that the Democrats really, really couldn't do in the 2024 election. You saw when Trump jumped on TikTok, the views went crazy. Kamla and Biden just crickets. Point is, the right are freaking out saying that if Mani gets in, New York is going to be destroyed, while the left seem to love him. They say that this is the change that New York has been needing and is the right person to stand up to Trump. But ultimately, what do you guys think? I mean, I wish we had the time in this episode to just run through all of his policies and break them down, but we don't. Maybe we could do a separate video on that. But I'd love to know what you guys think of Mum Donnie. You know, we're going to hear his name a lot more in the future. So, put it in the comments. Do you like him? Do you dislike him? But moving on. Okay, this next one is wild because also this week we learned that a group of fifth graders were arrested last year for allegedly plotting to a fellow student, which is a boy that allegedly one of them was apparently dating. and then take him out in a bathroom and then frame it as if he did it to himself. Fifth graders. Good to know that our generation's version of mean girls is murder girls. Now, this happened at a school in Arizona. And according to the police report, the four girls, who keep in mind, in fifth grade, you're like 10 years old, they were speaking about luring this boy into an outside toilet at the school premises and then him in the stomach. I can't say the words for the monetization overlords. And the report says that they were even planning little details down to wearing gloves so there was no fingerprints that would lead back to them. Uh they all had their own little roles like one of them was a guard like a lookout in case anyone came along. And they were even planning to forge aside note so that it made it look like he did it himself. God damn. So you're probably wondering why. What is the motive for this? Well, guess what? One of the girls allegedly was uh in a relationship with this planned victim, I guess, and he had apparently cheated on her. So, she hated him and she wanted him dead. That is, for as horrendous that is, that's an action taker. God, good luck to her future husband. Now, they were only caught when a fellow student overheard them having conversations in presumably the playground around trying to plan someone's murder. And then she told her parents. The three girls were arrested. Guess what? Craziest thing is that uh reports say that after they were arrested, three of the girls, they felt very remorseful and they were sorry, apologetic. One of them, however, and I think we know which one this might be, uh was smiling and laughing about the whole situation. She do not release her name to the public because Netflix, you might want to jump on this. Now, the students were eventually released into the custody of their parents and uh they're probably going to get suspended, probably going to get expelled. Damn, man. They said that Gen Alpha was going to kill it. I didn't know it was literal. Sorry, that wasn't the rest of you in part of Gen Alpha. I'm sorry. They was It was next. Also this week, Jeff Bezos and his now wife and astronaut Lauren Sanchez got married. Ah, you have no idea since we covered that story how long I've been waiting to call her an astronaut. It's kind of the only reason I'm covering this story. Just you wait until there's some news about Katy Perry, the other astronaut. No, but this story is actually pretty crazy because what happens when one of the richest men in the world decides to get married in a foreign city and then take over multiple venues and keep in mind this city is like worldwide known for chronic over tourism. Well, firstly, a lot of freaking money is spent. We'll get to that. Secondly, every legacy celebrity there is turns up. And lastly, and the most expected one, protests. A lot of them. I was just thinking, imagine, you know, when they're when they're like at the altar and they're like, "All right, for anyone who objects to the unification of these two, said now forever, hold your peace and there's like hordes of people out there saying, are weing object?" Anyway, the wedding was actually meant to be originally planned to be a lot more encroaching on Venice itself. But due to the massive push back from the actual residents, he didn't necessarily leave. He kind of uh decided, right, it's going to be on this little island just outside of Venice. But if you're looking at the map, it's literally just outside of Venice. Now, as for how much he spent on this wedding, reports say that they estimate between 40 and $50 million was spent on a wedding. Wow. I had to just know how many people on this planet ever make that much in their entire lifetimes. You know, the amount that he just dropped on a couple of days. And 99.9967% of the world's population will never make that in their entire lives. You get nothing, you lose. Good day, sir. But it gets crazier because uh reports say that Lawrence Sanchez alone was wearing jewelry apparently worth uh an estimated 20 to 30 million. Just uh just to bedazzle your That's crazy. I said good day. It's just a whole another world. we couldn't even comprehend. And invited to this wedding is pretty much everyone you'd expect. The Opas, the Kardashians, the Tom Bradies, Bill Gates, Leonardo Capra, whatever. Didn't want his face to be seen. And many, many more. And I know like look, it is their money and they can do with it what the hell they want. Who are we to judge? They've worked hard to make their whatever. But man, if this is not giving off some crazy Hunger Game vibes right now, like how are the 99.99.7 whatever% of the world supposed to look at, you know, the 0.1%, you know, parading through their city, dropping 50 mil on a on a just a party for them. That's crazy. Oh, and the final day of their wedding was a giant pajama party. Man, honestly, I think celebrity culture, at least this type of celebrity culture, is so cooked right now because of how out of touch it is with the state of the world. It's just kind of hard to watch. Anyway, moving on. Talking about the elites, though. Also this week, the son of Norway's crowned prince has just been charged with rape, sexual assault, bodily harm, and 23 other offenses. This is starting to become a real like anti the elites. Yeah, I I didn't plan it this way. It's just what happened this week. And apparently this is after a monthsl long investigation of a case that involves quote a doubledigit number of alleged victims. God damn. So 28-year-old Marius Hobie is the son of Norway's future king and he had a pretty busy 2024. He got arrested three times in 4 months. Now, police investigated this situation for the last 10 months and then yesterday finally b hit him with the charges. They say that they have evidence of these crimes which include text messages, witness testimonies, and police searches. The attorney for the Oslo police said, quote, "I cannot go into further detail about the number of alleged victims in the case beyond confirming that it is a doubledigit number." God. Okay, Alex will love this one because he's the one that put me on it. But why does bro look exactly like Joffrey from Game of Thrones? I can't stand the whailing of women. Oh man. Innocent until proven guilty. Unless you look exactly like Joffrey. Then you [ __ ] I'm telling mother. I don't really want to try and beef with like freaking Norwegian royalty to be honest with you. So yeah. Innocent until proven guilty I might add. Moving on. Also this week, oh my lord, it's all kicking off in the UK today. And let me break this one down for you because truly this is the craziest I think story of the day. So this all starts with an Irish band called Kneecap. Now they often mix political messaging into their music and they are very outspoken about the situation in Gaza right now. And I'm cutting this story very short, but last month they were charged under the UK Terrorism Act for allegedly waving a Hezbollah flag during a London concert and getting the crowd to chant pro- Hezbollah chants, I guess. Anyway, the group kneecap, they denied their support for any terrorism. Uh, and they argued that their actions were political protests. Either way, though, they were scheduled to play at Glastonbury. Glastonbury, the UK's by far biggest uh music festival. And they said that despite all of the drama that's going on with them, they were going to keep them as one of their performances. And this is despite Kia Starmmer, the country's prime minister, saying, "No, he doesn't think that they should be invited." And the BBC announced that they weren't going to cover their performance at Glast Debrief. They were say, "We're going to cover everyone else, not them, and we're not going to give them a platform to like our millions of viewers." But this backfired massively because in an unexpected twist, another artist named Bob Villain, I guess, saw the whole situation and said, "You know what? I'm going to take it upon myself to do what kneecap couldn't or at least was expected to do. And so with BBC covering it, he did this. Free free free. All right. But have you heard this one though? Death. Death to the IDF. Death. Death to the IDF. Death. Death to the IDF. Death to the IDF. Death. Death to the IDF. Death. Death to the IDF. Death. Death to the IDF. IDF. Hell yeah. From the river to the sea, Palestine must be, will be. Inshallah, it will be free. And BBC streamed that to millions of people across the country. Now, it actually went way beyond just those chants. He had an entire song themed in very similar uh veins, but if I play it on here, it's going to get copyrighted. So, let me describe. Basically, he plays that whole song. Everyone went crazy. and also kneecap. Even though they weren't covered on the BBC, well, they got the chant uh the crowd chanting things like F Kia Starmer and Free Palestine and a lot more. And after these sets, waking up on Sunday was like looking at the news, it is just it hit the fan. Glastenbury themselves issued a statement saying, quote, "We are appalled by the statements made for at the West Halt stage by Bob Villain yesterday. The BBC said that the comments were deeply offensive and that they will be cutting the footage of Bob Villain and you won't be able to watch it uh later on uh BBC i Player. Israel commented on it. They said that they are deeply disturbed by the inflammatory and hateful rhetoric. And even the police are getting involved now and they said that they will be assessing the footage to determine whether any offenses may have been committed that would require a criminal investigation. So the question is what do you guys think about this? I'm sure a lot more is going to unfold because this is all happening as I record it. I would love to see your thoughts in the comments. Moving on, also this week, man, we got the freaking luckiest driver in the world. What you are seeing is a truck driver in Guauo, China, hanging off the edge of a freaking cliff after the bridge he was driving on collapsed right in front of him. Eyewitnesses captured this insane footage showing the entire truck no longer on the road anymore and it is only being held on by the weight of its containers behind it and the strength of its latches. God damn, you would be panicking. The driver though can be seen very chilled out with his door open talking to the guy on the bridge filming him and the guy on the bridge says, quote, this is obviously translated, "Bro, you're so lucky. This is dangerous." Huh? I hadn't noticed. Now, the collapse was caused by heavy rainfall and flooding in the region in the last few days, which caused landslides. However, it's still being investigated as to why the bridge failed to withstand the weather because pretty important job. Anyway, the driver was eventually rescued and no casualties reported and now he's just got a fantastic story to tell his kids. Moving on. Also this week, man, this one is crazy. The mother of all protests actually happened a couple of days ago. Hundreds of thousands of people nationwide in Kenya poured onto the streets to protest against the RTO government. But we've seen protests before and this one was no normal protest. In preparation, the police started sealing off government buildings with barbed wire. They blocked off access roads to prevent them from being overrun. And the government, this is wild, they even ordered a ban on all television stations and radio stations from covering the demonstrations. And they even reportedly started blocking access to apps like Telegram. Bro, my editor, obviously not Alex, the other one that does the Tik Toks, lives in Kenya. And he was telling me that he had to use his mobile data to upload my video of the day because his Wi-Fi stopped working. Oh, and because this is largely a Gen Zled movement, this protest was built different. We had one guy holding up a sign saying, "Dear Iran, just one missile in our state house, please." Another guy brought his dog so that the dogs protest, too. They used slingshots. They brought tennis rackets to return gas canisters. And there was even a picture of a girl pole vaultting over the police's barbed wire. And what makes this really unique as well is that this whole protest was largely organized on social media using hashtags because it had no backing amongst the main parties and trade unions. That's how Gen Z protests. And it's also why the government is so like trying to crack down on things like social media and apps that are used to organize these things. This next part I thought was personally the most wild because the day before this protest kicked off a coalition of freaking uh foreign embassies and like just look at the amount of countries that issued this statement. They said that they are concerned about the government's use of hired goons. They are alleging that they are paying people to infiltrate and disturb peaceful protests so that the police have a justification to use force and shut things down like that. Oh my lord. I know that there this is probably happening in many other countries as well including you know the UK, United States but to see that so openly just being put out there is wild. And in this protest, not only did police end up using tear gas, water cannons, and batons, but they also used live ammunition. Tragically, Amnesty International reports that 16 people were killed, 400 were injured, and eight suffered gunshot wounds. Even CNN news reporters were on the scene wearing bulletproof vests and helmets saying and among these young people that they risk coming out here on the streets even though sometimes police shoot at unarmed protesters. That's why we wear this. We wear the flag jacket because we have seen Kenyan security forces shooting unarmed peaceful protesters. And the people part of this Gen Z movement say this isn't just a protest. This is a revolution. Pretty pretty insane. what we got to move on. So next, okay, I want to open up to you guys for a minute. Can we do that? This is a safe space, right? So recently, as you guys know, I went to Kenya and honestly, this was the first time ever that I've actually felt danger based on this story that I was covering because usually, even if I'm covering a sensitive topic, I'm doing it from the UK, which has pretty good freedom of information laws. But in Nairobi, even the local journalists that I was speaking to literally said, "Maybe just post the video after you leave the country." One of them told me that they didn't even want to go full-time on TikTok covering news because they didn't have their agency behind them as protection. That is something I've never even thought about doing this job. And I was there thinking like, damn, I'm only having to experience this fear for a couple of days. Imagine the journalists living here permanently, experiencing it every day. Oh, the panic you'd feel if you've accidentally uncovered some government corruption, now you got to report on this. So, you guys know I had to tell him about Proton Mail because on a serious note, it doesn't matter what government is trying to spy on you or what country you're in. If you use Proton Mail, no government can request to access your information. Period. That's because Proton is the only encrypted mail service in the world that keeps all of its servers in Switzerland. And Switzerland has Swiss ass laws. So you know they're good. Also, it's free. So literally, why use any other service? Because most of them openly read your emails and sell what you speak of to third parties. And that's not even a secret. Go look in the fine print, which none of us read. And if you're thinking, "Ah, it's too much effort to switch over." No, it literally takes minutes. With just a few clicks, you can transfer and forward all of your emails, your contacts, your calendar. And let's be honest, even if you're not speaking about anything sensitive, not having your emails read by randos should be a matter of principle. So, I urge you, start using Proton Mail today. And if you do, for free, use the link that I've pinned in the comments, proton.me/dillpage. And that link will tell Proton that you have come from the Empire. Thank you very much for listening and moving on. So, last week's video, I saw a cheeky little comment saying, "Only the OGs of this channel would know that rapid fire news used to be a lot more rapid." Well, guess what? Because of the cheek, not only are we going to have today the most rapid of all fired newses in the news daddy history, but just to get people back in line today, we are not doing a whipping. Our three sacrificial lambs are getting a Boeing. For anyone confused, go watch the last video. You're missing a lot of channel lore. All right, set them off on our target. Everyone salute our first three lands to get a Boeing. Subscribe to the channel. That was your first Boeing of the thing. Moving on. Okay, are we ready for the world's most news? This week, we got the world's first autonomous delivery of a car. Yes, this Tesla drove from its Gigafactory in Texas all by itself to its new owner, apparently 30 minutes away, crossing parking lots, highways, and the city to reach its new owner. China, I've seen you your self-driving cars. Why haven't you done this yet? For the first time in 12 years, PewDiePie is no longer among the top 10 most subscribed to YouTube channels. The end of an era. Next. Also this week, America is facing a brutal beating from the sun because there's a massive heat wave. Super intense. Dozens of people have been hospitalized. Roads are buckling. That clip. Oh, I would like to know about this clip actually. Why was someone filming that area just when the road decides to buckle? What the flip? Oh, and also multiple heat records have been broken. You probably haven't even heard about it because it happened in the week that we were having the Iran situation go off. New York recorded its highest temperature in 13 years. And New Jersey had to declare a state of emergency after 150 people fell ill when they were sat in the sun during a graduation. It was labeled a mass casualty event. Next. Next. A 22-year-old man from Norway accused the US government of denying him entry into the country because of this bold JD Vance meme. Now it's everywhere. However, we don't know whether he's telling the truth. Uh, you know, he says one thing and the Department of Homeland Security say another thing. They deny it. They say that the Norwegian admitted to using marijuana in the past and that's the real reason he was denied entry. They also said on the actual documents that he was planning to get work under this visa and he wasn't allowed that. Anyway, point is next. Carmelo Anthony this week was formally indicted by a Texas grand jury for firstdegree murder and because of the charges that he's been given and the fact that he's been tried as an adult, he now faces up to life in prison. Next, tragically, the rescue efforts to save the 26-year-old Brazilian pole dancer Juliana Morren unfortunately failed. Now, Juliana was hiking on a mountain in Indonesia when she fell 1,000 ft into the crate of a volcano. Now, it was miraculous that she survived the fall, but she ended up surviving a further four more days, praying that rescue teams could get to her in time. Unfortunately though, after the fourth day, she didn't and she succumbed to her injuries. And then lastly, the UK has confirmed that it is buying 12 F-35 planes from the United States capable of carrying nuclear weapons. Great. Now, not only are these some of the most advanced fighter jets on the planet, but they're also some of the most expensive. So, 12 of them going to be top dollar. That was a lot of subjects. Got to maybe one of the records that we've covered in one video. So, if you appreciate the hard work and effort that goes into every single one of these, then please subscribe, like, maybe by the time you're watching this, we've hit 800K, only 200K more to the big 1 million and we're going to be doing something big. Maybe we go and meet Alex for the first time ever. Maybe Alex and I meet for the first time ever at a million. Who knows? But what I do know is I love you and I will be seeing you on Wednesday. Have a fantastic beginning of the week. See you then. This is my first attempt to get a head shot. I probably will be able to do it. See you in the next one. Head shot. Nope. Stop pre-workout kicking in. Man, I need to stop taking pre-workout.
